nUI Community News
(community action) |
This newsletter is addressed primarily to the members of the nUI community who are also American citizens. It is out of the ordinary topic of conversation for the nUI community but no less applicable and important for our community.
As many of you are likely aware (and just as many not, I suspect), today is a day of protest on the Internet regarding two bills before the House and Senate that seek in large part to exert more government control over the Internet, domain names and to one degree or another Internet censorship.
As gamers, and members of this community, we all rely on the Internet for our entertainment, free communication and free exchange of ideas (a la nUI, for example). While piracy of intellectual property is always an issue, and something I have often been the victim of in my own life, neither of these bills solves that problem while simultaneously forever changing the Internet as we all know it. Understand that I am coming before you as an author of software and intellectual property for whom the goverment would wish you to believe they are acting in the best interest of and I am telling you I do not want the kind of solution they are proposing... it does nothing to solve my problems with protecting my intellectual property while simultaneously harming us all.
I beg each and every one of you to get informed about what's going on and to take action... you can start here:
https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more
Please take a moment to learn what's going on and to sign the petition. Let it be known that this is *NOT* what we want from our government. Many of the Internet's most prominent web sites are participating in this protest today (check the home pages at Google and WikiPedia, for examples) and I sincerly hope you'll take a moment out of your day to lend your support to the online community's message to our political leadership, as well.
With sincere thanks to you all, as always...

(bug report request) |
I wanted to follow up on my request for assistance with this viewport bug first by extending a sincere thank you to everyone for their feedback. I've passed the data and screen shots on to Blizzard and the engine team is looking into it. With one exception, in the training area in Darnassus, every example I received was either for Uldum or Throne of Tides. So, that all said, as this point I do not need any more examples of the viewport problem in those areas.
I would ask, however, that if you experience the viewport bug in any zone other than Darnassus, Uldum or Throne of Tides, please press Alt-z to turn off the user interface so we can see the viewport unobstructed (there will be a black bar at the bottom of the screen) and take a screen shot, then press Alt-z again to get back to the user interface and turn the viewport off using the '/nui viewport' command, then use Alt-z one more time to hide the UI and take another screen shot without the viewport (the black bar that was at the bottom of the screen will be gone) so we can compare the images.
Once you have both screen shots (with and without the black bar at the bottom), please e-mail them to me at this e-mail address along with a description of your computer system -- PC/Mac, Operating System, Memory and Videa Card. I also need to know name of the zone you were in and the map coordinates (nUI prints them at the bottom of the world map)
Once again, my sincere thanks to everyone for their assistance in running this problem down.
Lastly... if you are not already an nUI supporter, your consideration would be deeply appreciated and is badly needed. Please consider visiting http://www.nUIaddon.com and signing up for one of the premium services or offering a donation to aid the effort... with my deepest gratitude...
Happy questing!

nUI Community News
(bug report request) |
I have a request for the community for some assistance in working with Blizzard to try and nail down a bug in WoW. Specifically, this is the issue with the broken viewports. What I need to do is to put together a somewhat exacting list of the places and circumstances under which the viewport breaks so I can pass it along to Blizzard and then, hopefully, this can get fixed.
So, for starters, let's talk about specifically what a "broken viewport" is - to begin, make sure you do not have nUI's viewport disabled. You can tell by pressing Alt-z and looking to see if there's a wide black bar at the bottom of the screen. If you do not see it, you have the viewport turned off. So, press Alt-z again to redisplay the dashboard and then type '/nui viewport' to turn the viewport back on. Now if you do Alt-z again, you should see the black bar. Once you know you have the viewport enabled, your character should appear in the middle of the space between the dashboard and the top of the screen and everything should appear normal. Other than where the center of the screen is and the dimesions between the screen edges, the should be *no* difference between the appearance of the 3D world regardless of whether you have the viewport enabled or not.
Okay... so, now that the viewport is turned on and we know it's working, how do we tell when it is broken? What will happen is that when you enter a zone where viewports are broken, you'll suddenly start seeing strange things like your armor floating above your character, your character flying above the mount with blank space between, your character walking with only his head sticking up above the ground, lakes and streams that have no water in them or the water floating in the middle of the sky, etc. If you see any of these things, odds are it's the viewport bug we're trying to track down.
You can confirm that it is the viewport bug by issuing the '/nui viewport' command to toggle the viewport on and off. When the viewport is turned off, everything will look right and as soon as you turn it back on, it will break again.
Here's what I need you to do. If you find a place in the game where the viewport is broken, please take a minute to figure out exactly where you are and verify that you can reproduce it and that turning the nUI viewport on and off makes the problem come and go. Once you've done that, please take a screen shot of it while it is broken and e-mail it to me in reply to this message. PLEASE DO NOT POST IT ON THE FORUMS! I would ask that you also let me know what kind of PC you are using, what operating system and what video card. Horde, alliance, zone, exactly location, etc. Everything Blizzard and I would need to know to go there and test it ourselves. I do not need to know every single spot in the same zone where it happens, just one reliable location in that specific zone is enough
Your help and feedback on getting this problem fixed would be very much appreciated.

nUI Release News
(nUI 5.07.24) |
nUI+ 5.07.24 has been released for WoW Patch 4.3 and is currently available for download.
This update is all about the movers... here's hoping I got it right this time. First, it fixes the two missing group loot roll windows (#3 and #4) for sure. Hopefully I have finally got the PlayerPowerBarAlt and ExtraActionBarFrame sorted out, too... please let me know if you are still having issues with them after this update. To be sure, I can now see the movers when the '/nui movers' command is used... it remains to be seen if the bars themselves will appear as intended (since I can't test it myself).
From what I can gather, some folks are still having issues with downloading from the nUI+ private area at WoWInterface.com -- I don't know if this issue has been resolved yet, or not. If you are a member of the nUI+ User Group at WoWInterface.com and you cannot download from the link, please try using an alternate browser other than Firefox (or Mozilla) such as IE or Chrome. If you still can't download, and you are willing to work with Dolby to help him figure out what the problem is, you should send a private message to "Dolby" on WoWInterface.com -- this is not a problem I have any control over or can fix as I have no admin rights on WoWInterface.
The premium download area at nUIaddon.com does work for those who would like to use it. If you are subscribed to the premium download service at http://www.nUIaddon.com, these files are available for download now. If you are not a download service subscriber, you can download nUI (Lite) from both WoWInterface.com and Curse.com and you can get nUI+ for free in the private download area at WoWInterface.com presuming you are not one of the people affected by whatever that current WoWI server problem may be.
If you are subscribed to the premium eMail Update service, then this update has already been e- mailed to you. If you did not receive the e-mail, please go to http://www.nUIaddon.com and look at the menu options under "Your services..." and see if the "eMail Updates" service is listed. If it is not, please e-mail with your PayPal e-mail address and I will look to see why you did not get credit for your subscription. If the option is there, click on it and verify that you have the subscription enabled. If it is not, enable the subscription and click the "Save Changes" button.
Lastly... if you are not already an nUI supporter, your consideration would be deeply appreciated and is badly needed. Please consider visiting http://www.nUIaddon.com and signing up for one of the premium services or offering a donation to aid the effort... with my deepest gratitude...

nUI Release News
(nUI 5.07.23) |
nUI+ 5.07.23 has been released for WoW Patch 4.3 and is currently available for download from the premium download area at nUIaddon.com or from WoWInterface.com -- the lite version of nUI is also available for download from Curse.com
Subscribers to the nUI eMail Update service should already see these updates in their e-mail inboxes. If you are subscribed to this premium service and you have not received your update files via e-mail, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so I can look into why you did not receive the e-mail. If you are subscribed to the premium download service at nUIaddon.com, these files are available for download now. Also, if you are on the eMail update service and you did not receive the update via eMail, please log into the web site at http://www.nUIaddon.com and check your services... make sure that your eMail Updates subscription is enabled... it appears that some people have accidentally turned it off.
One other thing, a great many people have reported to me that they have been unable to download the updates from the nUI+ Full Version link at the http://www.WoWInterface.com site -- this is an issue we are aware of and Dolby is doing his best to sort it out. This *appears* to be an issue that is only affecting Firefox/Mozilla users, so if you have this problem you might consider trying IE or Chrome and see if you can access it that way. If you want to help Dolby sort out the problem, you can send him a private message on the WOWI site (user name DOLBY). This problem does not affect the premium download area for the http://www.nUIaddon.com (and no, I didn't plan it that way ~smile~ I have no control over the inner workings of the WoWI site)
So, with all of that out of the way, this update fixes two things and (hopefully) fixes a third... it fixes the in-game version number, it should also fix the cooldown timers on the action bars and I'm praying it fixes the problem with the missing ExtraActionBar and PlayerPowerBarAlt frames for fights like Atramedes, etc. Please let me know if it still doesn't work -- having been away, I do not have a character I can test it on myself. If these added bars still aren't working and anyone can sort out why, please do let me know what you find.
Lastly... if you are not already an nUI supporter, your consideration would be deeply appreciated and is badly needed. Please consider visiting http://www.nUIaddon.com and signing up for one of the premium services or offering a donation to aid the effort... with my deepest gratitude...
