nUI Community News
(community action) |
This newsletter is addressed primarily to the members of the nUI community who are also American citizens. It is out of the ordinary topic of conversation for the nUI community but no less applicable and important for our community.
As many of you are likely aware (and just as many not, I suspect), today is a day of protest on the Internet regarding two bills before the House and Senate that seek in large part to exert more government control over the Internet, domain names and to one degree or another Internet censorship.
As gamers, and members of this community, we all rely on the Internet for our entertainment, free communication and free exchange of ideas (a la nUI, for example). While piracy of intellectual property is always an issue, and something I have often been the victim of in my own life, neither of these bills solves that problem while simultaneously forever changing the Internet as we all know it. Understand that I am coming before you as an author of software and intellectual property for whom the goverment would wish you to believe they are acting in the best interest of and I am telling you I do not want the kind of solution they are proposing... it does nothing to solve my problems with protecting my intellectual property while simultaneously harming us all.
I beg each and every one of you to get informed about what's going on and to take action... you can start here:

Please take a moment to learn what's going on and to sign the petition. Let it be known that this is *NOT* what we want from our government. Many of the Internet's most prominent web sites are participating in this protest today (check the home pages at Google and WikiPedia, for examples) and I sincerly hope you'll take a moment out of your day to lend your support to the online community's message to our political leadership, as well.
With sincere thanks to you all, as always...
